Clinical skills checkoffs and evaluations already live in HealthTasks. The LMS gradebook is where faculty and students expect to see the grade. Until now, that last mile was often a spreadsheet export or a second round of data entry.
Today that loop closes. HealthTasks can push completed skills checkoffs and evaluation scores into Canvas as assignment grades.
Grades without the spreadsheet
Canvas grade passback sends clinical competency results from HealthTasks into the Canvas gradebook. Programs that already connect Canvas for course mapping now get the other direction: HealthTasks → Canvas.
What schools get:
- Automatic overnight sync into Canvas
- Admin control over what to send: skills checkoffs, evaluations, or both
- Admin control over which Canvas-linked courses receive grades
- Grades on Canvas assignments, auto-created or linked by an admin
- Idempotent delivery so the same submission does not double-write
Faculty stay in HealthTasks for the clinical work. Students and the registrar see scores where the rest of the course already lives.
How it fits the Canvas connection you already have
Many programs already connect Canvas under Settings → LMS / Canvas: URL, token, and course maps. That path has been about bringing LMS context into clinical education.
Grade passback extends the same connection. Turn on Send grades to Canvas, choose checkoffs and/or evaluations, pick the Canvas-linked courses that should receive grades, and leave the rest to overnight sync. Settings autosave. There is no separate Save button or nightly export ritual.
Clinical competency evidence becomes LMS gradebook data without a second system of record.
Why this matters
Double-entry between a clinical education platform and Canvas burns faculty time and creates drift. One score in HealthTasks and another in the gradebook is an accreditation and student-experience risk.
Grade passback keeps HealthTasks as the system of record for skills and evaluations while Canvas stays the course gradebook. Coordinators configure once. Overnight sync keeps assignments current. Programs stop reconciling CSVs between clinical evidence and the LMS.
Get started
If your program already uses Canvas with HealthTasks, open Settings → LMS / Canvas, enable grade send, and choose which checkoffs, evaluations, and courses to include. If you are still evaluating how clinical education should connect to your LMS stack, we can walk through the path.
