Curriculum Objective Templates (Competency Map)
Curriculum objective templates define your competency framework—domains, competencies, and subcompetencies. In navigation this lives under Templates → Competency Map.
Overview
Open Templates → Competency Map to create and edit these templates. Other template types (skills, evaluations, course objectives, courses & assignments) can map into the Competency Map you select.
Structure
Each row is typically:

| Domain | Optional high-level grouping |
| Competency | ID + name for the competency |
| Subcompetency | ID + name for the specific learning objective |
Keep IDs unique within a template so mapping and reports stay unambiguous.
Create or import
- Go to Templates → Competency Map.
- Create an empty template, or import:
- Official templates when offered (for example AACN Essentials entry- or advanced-level sets), subject to the copyright notice in the dialog
- A spreadsheet of competencies / subcompetencies
- Open the editor to add, edit, or remove rows.
- Save when creating; many edits auto-save while you work.
After an official import, review and customize for your program before large mapping projects.
How it is used
- Skills and Evaluations templates can map items to competencies.
- Course Objectives map down to competencies.
- Courses & Assignments can map assignments to competencies.
- Accreditation and reporting features use this framework as the shared vocabulary.
Stabilize the Competency Map before you invest in large mapping passes elsewhere.
Tips
- Prefer official or spreadsheet import for large frameworks instead of typing hundreds of rows.
- Use domains to keep long lists scannable.
- Archive old maps when curriculum standards change; keep them if prior cycles still need history.
- Agree on ID conventions early so skills, COs, and assignments map cleanly.
Troubleshooting
Competency Map tab missing
Confirm you are an admin. Vision-only or limited plans may hide curriculum tabs.
Import failed or partial
Use the downloadable sample columns, fix empty or duplicate ID pairs, and re-upload.
Other templates cannot map
Select this Competency Map on the skills, evaluation, CO, or courses template, and confirm the map has objectives.
