Voice Simulations

Voice simulations let students practice clinical conversations with AI, then receive scoring and educator review—without using a live patient encounter.

Overview

Admins create scenarios under Templates → Voice Sims. Educators assign published sims to students. Students start from Assignments, complete a live voice session, and see AI feedback. Educators can review transcripts and finalize grades.

Voice sims are available for eligible institutions (not trades-only setups). Credits are purchased on Billing → Sims.

Create templates

  1. Open Templates and select the Voice Sims tab.
  2. Create a template: scenario, student-facing intro, and grading approach.
  3. Optionally use AI to expand the scenario draft.
  4. Publish the template when it is ready to assign.

Only published templates appear in the assign list. Keep unpublished drafts for work in progress.

Assign simulations

Admins, faculty, and preceptors can assign sims:

  1. Choose a published template, classroom, students, and due date (when applicable).
  2. Confirm credit cost for the assignment before submitting.
  3. Students receive the assignment under Assignments.

Standard length is about five minutes and uses one credit per student. An extended option (about ten minutes) uses two credits per student. Practice-style assignments still consume credits when you assign them.

If your institution does not have enough credits, purchase more on Billing → Sims before assigning.

Student experience

  1. Open the sim from Assignments.
  2. Read the scenario, then start the live voice session.
  3. Complete the conversation within the assigned length.
  4. After the session, review the transcript, AI scores, and feedback.

Only the assigned student can start that assignment. Use a quiet space and allow microphone access when prompted.

Educator review

After a student finishes:

  1. Open the session to review the transcript and AI grades.
  2. Adjust scores or notes as needed.
  3. Optionally control whether AI feedback is visible to the student.
  4. Finalize grades when review is complete.

Review is available to admins, faculty, and preceptors with access to the assignment.

Credits

  • One credit ≈ one assigned standard (about 5-minute) simulation per student.
  • Extended sims cost two credits per student.
  • Credits expire one year after purchase.
  • Exact pricing and volume tiers appear on Billing → Sims.

Institution administrators buy credits there; the assignment form also shows remaining balance and a link to purchase more.

Tips

  1. Publish and dry-run a template with a small group before a full cohort assignment.
  2. Buy credits ahead of large assignment windows so students are not blocked at launch.
  3. Use clear due dates for graded work; use practice mode when you want low-stakes rehearsal.
  4. Review a few early sessions to calibrate how your team finalizes AI grades.

Troubleshooting

Voice Sims tab missing
Confirm your institution plan supports voice sims, and that you are signed in as an admin for Templates.

Cannot assign a template
Publish the template first, and confirm enough credits remain for the selected students and length.

Student cannot start
Confirm the assignment is theirs, the template is published, and microphone permission is allowed in the browser.

Out of credits
An institution administrator can purchase more under Billing → Sims.
