Skills Templates

Skills templates list the clinical skills students should practice and demonstrate. Admins manage them under Templates → Skills.

Overview

Open Templates → Skills, create or edit a template, then use it with classrooms and clinical logging so students can record skill completions against the list.

Create a template

  1. Go to Templates → Skills.
  2. Create a new template (or duplicate an existing one).
  3. Name it by rotation, level, or site (for example “Med-Surg Level 2”).
  4. Optionally select a Competency Map template for curriculum mapping.
  5. Add skills, then save.

You can add skills one at a time or import from a spreadsheet. Optional AI-assisted generation may be available when educator AI is enabled—review every suggestion before you publish.

Skill settings

For each skill set:

SettingMeaning
NameClear skill label students recognize
Ability levelPerformed, Assisted, or Observed
Required countHow many times the skill must be completed
Curriculum mappingOptional links to competencies / subcompetencies

Balance ability levels for the student stage (more observed early, more performed later). Keep required counts realistic for the rotation length.

Curriculum mapping

With a Competency Map selected:

  1. Open mapping on a skill.
  2. Search and select the competencies it supports.
  3. Map a few direct alignments per skill rather than broad over-mapping.

Optional AI map-one or map-all actions may be available; always review results for accreditation use.

Tips

  1. Prefer specific names (“Oral medication administration”) over vague ones (“Medications”).
  2. Duplicate a strong template when building a close variant for another cohort.
  3. Stabilize the Competency Map before a large mapping pass.
  4. Archive outdated skill lists instead of deleting when prior terms still need history.

Troubleshooting

Skills tab missing
Confirm you are an admin on a plan that includes skills templates (vision-only setups may hide this tab).

Cannot map to competencies
Select a Competency Map template first and confirm it has competencies defined.

Import failed
Use the downloadable sample file, include a skill name column, and re-upload valid ability levels and counts.
